...our story on what inspired us to create Ulu Agency
WHAT is Ulu?
Ulu is the protein-rich tropical Superfruit that serves as the inspiration and name of our digital marketing agency!
So why Ulu?
Also known as breadfruit, 'ulu’ is a local produce found on the Hawaiian Islands and in the Caribbean, South Asia, and Polynesia that is nutritious, delicious, underutilized, and extremely versatile—it can be enjoyed and prepared as a fruit or a vegetable. When roasted, it resembles baked bread. Who doesn’t love bread? Ulu was one of the five original staple crops that ancient Polynesian navigators brought with them on their voyage of discovery to the Hawaiian island chain. Ulu -in Hawaiian language - means ‘To Grow’! Makes sense now doesn’t it? We can’t think of any better analogy for our passion project which is designed to help today’s (and tomorrow’s) entrepreneurs GROW their business!

Jason Hunnings
Jason is our all things digital guru! Jason has years of expertise in website design, landing page & sales funnel construction, search engine optimization (S.E.O.), coding, digital animation, and market conversions. He has a broad background in the pharmaceutical, printing, computer, healthcare and construction industries! Do you need to write a computer program or create an award winning website or landing page? He’s your guy! Jason specializes in thinking outside of the box and creating unique niches for businesses to grow and expand into. Jason’s S.E.O. strategy is amazing! He knows exactly what it takes to get you listed on the first page of Google. And no, it’s not just a bunch of money - though that does help! A devoted father to two of the most amazing little humans on the planet and husband to the most beautiful & talented woman in the world ( way to score the brownie points Jay! ) Jason believes all work and no fun is bad for your health and goes out of his way to balance his work and family time! Jay feels like we are all one bad decision away from celebrity or a really great story you will never tell your parents! Jason is ready to assist with all your digital needs!
Brian Hunnings
Brian is the elder statesmen of our group- much to his chagrin and his brothers delight! He has over 30+ years experience in the highly competitive hospitality industry running some of the world’s leading resort and hotel properties! Brian brings his wealth of business acumen and management experience to the Ulu Agency. Brian has extensive knowledge and hands on experience in hospitality, food & beverage, spa, golf, retail, surf and activities management. Brian has spent the last 20+ years in Hawaii & French Polynesia running some of the regions highest rated properties! During his career he has generated BILLIONS of dollars in profit for resort / hotel investors & owners. Brian has owned and operated his own production company and works with numerous TV, FILM, CHARITY and INTERNET companies to create amazing events, campaigns and advertising opportunities to drive business and gain media exposure! Giving back to the community is essential for Brian and he volunteers a vast amount of his time to charity work as well as mentoring the future generation of Hawaii hospitality leaders and entrepreneurs!
Joshua Haywood
Josh is the youngest member of our team and what he might lack in experience he more than makes up for in passion and creativity! Josh is our millennial who understands what is hot (or most likely what is NOT) in today’s trends and keeps our fingers on the pulse of what’s new, what’s now and what’s next! Josh is an expert on how to communicate via social media to today’s generation and knows where to look to in anticipation of the next viral trend. Josh is incredibly accomplished at E-commerce, digital investing and social media! He knows when to post and what to post to grow your brand. He’s also the first to tell you when your online strategy is missing the mark and more importantly what you should do to fix it to increase your engagement and your online sales! He’s successfully started (and sold) three online businesses! He genuinely subscribes to the work hard / play hard life philosophy and when not creating he’s on-line pursuing his dream to become a sponsored on-line e-sports athlete! ( I. E. Get paid to play video games! ) The Ulu Agency is his latest passion project that he believes in strongly!
Hercules & Zoose
Hercules and Zoose are our two mascots at the Ulu Agency! Zoose is part terrier / part pitt-bull and 100% pure love! He is a rescue dog that we found wasting away at the Hawaii Humane Society after he was TWICE given up for adoption by two different families! We immediately recognized him as part of our tribe and he now serves us a daily reminder on the power of perseverance and never giving up! Hercules a.k.a. ‘Bing-Bong’ was rescued as a puppy along with seven of his brothers and sisters from Waimea bay when some D-bag tried to stuff them all in a box and drown them in the ocean. We rescued all seven and found loving homes for all of them except Herc who was the runt of the litter. Which was perfect as we had already fallen in love with his big personality and boundless energy and curiosity. Herc serves as a constant reminder to never underestimate the under-dog as great things often come in little packages and bigger doesn’t always mean better! Together these two serve happiness, tail wags, kisses and slobber (lots and lots and lots of slobber) to everyone who visits the Ulu Agency offices on a daily basis!
